5 Ways to Strike Out Less
Mar 03, 2026
If striking out feels like a sin, here are 5 ways to strike out less:
1. Be aggressive
Most strikeouts don't happen on strike 3.
They happen on strikes 1 & 2.
Don't take a fastball down the middle first pitch.
2. Change your 2-strike approach
What most hitters do:
π Hope to put the ball in play
π Expand the zone
π "Shorten up"
π Spread out
What most hitters should do:
β Shrink the zone
β Flip the count (0-2 - 2-0)
β Not panic
3. Don't swing at pitches you normally wouldn't
Most players expand the zone with two strikes.
- Their perception of the zone changes.
- They swing at pitches they normally wouldn't.
Ask yourself:
Do you swing at bad pitches in a 2-0 count?
If it's an 0-2 count, flip the count to 2-0.
4. Play how you practice
Should you spread out and choke up?
50% of your at-bats will go to two strikes.
Are you practicing that 50% of the time?
If not, then no.
5. Some plan > No plan
π You don't need a complex plan
π You need a plan
It's going to happen.
β The best hitters in the world strike out.
β You will strike out looking at times.
Your coach may get mad.
That's okay.
They took a FB down the middle at some point too.
There is no one way to think about hitting
If your way works for you, keep at it!
I'm just sharing what I've seen work/not work for the majority of the hitters.
